Creating Space with Bi-Fold Doors

One popular choice for room separation or patio/garden access are bi-fold doors. They are great at creating space and also acting as large windows when closed to ensure there is plenty of natural light. If you have been considering bi-fold doors, here is a bit of information to help with your decision.

For these purposes there are basically three main door types used:

• Sliding doors- usually two large panes of glass which move behind each other and gives an mostly unobstructed view when closed but when open, still limits easy access as they can’t be folded away.

• French doors- are a classic, clunkier choice which are typically aesthetically pleasing, especially in older homes and typically open out but when closed may have a bit of an obstructed view.

• Bi-fold doors- are made of several tall, thin panels which fold away to the sides of the doorway when open providing the most unobstructed access but when closed could restrict view more.

Bi-fold doors are usually made of either timber, aluminium or uPVC. Aluminium doors have the most structural integrity but typically more expensive, timber doors require the most maintenance and uPVC may expand and contract with temperature fluctuation.
